At Industriestrasse 8 in Volketswil, a group of four commercial buildings is being transformed into the “8in” workspace, featuring innovative sharing concepts, spacious, green outdoor areas, and over 115 parking spaces. The former headquarters of a cosmetics company will be completely renovated in 2025 and will then offer rental space ranging from 155 to 1,560 m², providing ample space for services, production, offices, laboratories, sales, and logistics. 8in is characterized by its spacious, open architecture with high ceilings, flexible floor plans, and plenty of natural daylight. Tenants already include the international fragrance manufacturer Givaudan and the chic Italian restaurant Don Leone. The renovated buildings are highly energy efficient, featuring sustainable building technology, a reversible air-to-water heat pump, and a photovoltaic system. Each unit has fully developed sanitary facilities and a kitchenette. Upon request, it is also possible to rent the space as a tenant fit-out (MAB).

Serlas Wing of Badrutt’s Palace Hotel is open

The Serlas Wing, the new extension to the Badrutt’s Palace Hotel in St. Moritz, was completed in December 2024. The six-story building, designed by Antonio Citterio from APV Architects, Milan and implemented in collaboration with hwa architects “Gesamtleitung” and “Local Architect”, includes 22 exclusive suites, three apartments and several luxury boutiques on the ground floor. The extension is directly linked to the main house via an underground connection. A special highlight is the longest “hotel escalator in Switzerland”, which takes guests underground into the center of St. Moritz directly to the in-house restaurant Chesa Veglia. The striking exterior facade made of Dorata Valmalenco stone with its deeply cut windows with red awnings harmonizes with the prevailing Engadine architectural style and the venerable Badrutt’s Palace Hotel opposite. The cantilevered roof structure, made of wood using the traditional Japanese Yakisugi technique, combines centuries-old craftsmanship with modern innovation. The interior is dominated by dark oak wood and tactilely pleasant wool fabric walls, which create elegance and comfort.

«Future Day» for schools in Zurich

The two “Schnuppis” at their Future Day in the office of hwa Architekten. Left picture, with the help of Tobi it’s even better.
This year too, two “Schnapps” came to our hwa Architects Office to take a closer look at the profession of architecture and construction.
The creative exercises included perspective drawing of rooms. Included the boys learned how to put 3D spatial vision on 2D paper by using vanishing points, levels and depths as well as near and far.
By sketching buildings and floor plans as well as working with 2D and 3D BIM programs, our “Schnapps” were able to gain many interesting impressions. It’s nice that the HWA team, especially Tobi and Xenia, were so committed to making the day unforgettable. Such events are a great opportunity for young people to gain an insight into different careers and discover their interests.
We are already looking forward to the next Future Day and to giving other interested young people an insight into the world of architecture.
